Get answers to common questions about finding trades jobs and apprenticing in Alberta.
How do I find a trades job sponsor in Alberta?
Most employers hire apprentices directly as laborers or starter helpers. Once you prove your reliability, they register you with Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT). You can filter for "Apprenticeship Sponsor" on our job board subdomain.
Does Alberta recognize trades credentials from other provinces?
Yes. If you hold a valid Red Seal endorsement from any Canadian province or territory, your certification is fully recognized in Alberta. For non-Red Seal trades, you can apply for a credential review through AIT Alberta.
What are typical shift schedules for industrial jobs in Alberta?
Heavy industrial jobs (e.g. Fort McMurray oilsands, remote pipelines) commonly run on rosters such as 14 days on, 7 days off, or 10 days on, 4 days off. Shifts are usually 10 to 12 hours long, with camp accommodation and travel often provided.
